Eis Peter

I started this post quickly before jetting off to London last week, and I promise I had every intention of finishing it. Somehow, however, between copious amounts of fish and chips, red double-decker busses, cider, museums, scones, rain boots, curry, tea, old friends, and more, I’m only finishing it today now that I am back home. My apologies! In any case, without further ado, here is the short and sweet (literally) post I meant for last week. Better late than never!

Have you ever been to Baden? In the almost 4 years that I have lived in Vienna, I’d never been! I’ve managed to go to Italy, Germany, Holland, The Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovakia, Sweden, Spain, France,Switzerland, Turkey, Denmark, and England, but never down the road from Vienna to Baden. I never intended not to go, but I also never really made plans to head down there. Until the other weekend. A random Sunday with blue skies had me itchin’ to get out and go somewhere, so Baden was decided upon, and off we went after breakfast.

Awaiting us was the adorable little town, perfect for strolling around on a summer-like spring day. We saw the casino. We saw the spa. Since it was a Sunday, window shopping was on offer. When that lost its appeal, we hiked up the main hill in town for a view from above. That caused a bit of an appetite to appear. Not necessarily hungry for a full meal, yet yearning for something to reward us for our efforts, we soon stumbled upon…

Eis Peter. I had just declared that I wanted an ice cream cone, and when we turned the corner there was this shop! Fate. Locally-made ice cream on a beautiful day with nary a cloud in sight? Don’t mind if we do. Didn’t mind if we did.

We each got cones, a lovely mix of cookie and tiramisu, and we gobbled them down with glee. Delicious. Upon taking my last bite, however, I suddenly remembered the fact that um, I have ye old little blog, and I had just enjoyed something worth writing about, and gulp, I. did. not. photograph. it. Bad blogger! So, I decided to bite the bullet and take one for the team. My husband did as well, ever the supporter of this little blog. I think you see where this is headed?  Yes, we got another ice cream cone. To share and cleanse the palate and provide content for SushiandStrudel. It’s a tough life, I tell you!

I present, the final course. Pear and Raspberry. Oh so good. Just like the first flavors we enjoyed, these two were also done oh so right. The real draw to this ice cream shop, aside from being a great stop for a treat when on a little adventure in a cute Austrian town, is that the ice cream tastes so real. Kein Wunder, of course, due to the shop’s staunch commitment to only using fresh and natural ingredients without conservatives. Whereas the first flavors tasted like momma’s homemade cookies and the local Italian restaurant’s tiramisu in ice cream form, the latter flavors tasted like the freshest fruit on a hot summer day, a dip in the ocean back in California in July. Perfection.

So head to Baden for both Baden itself and for this ice cream shop. Neither will disappoint! And if you find yourself also needing another cone, blog excuse or not, just go for it. It’s that good!

  1. Hi! Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. I love yours! It’s exactly what I need, because we’re really stuck in a rut when it comes to dining out and now I have a place to go to find new ideas for our next outings. :) Got family coming end of May, this is perfect timing!

  2. I moved to Austria last year, also from the states (albeit the east coast), and I’m actually living in Baden! I adore Eis Peter! I’m so happy I stumbled upon your blog for more ideas when I’m in Vienna!
